I SAW UFOS WHILE CYCLING

THE recent edition of Bygones has dragged up lots more memories.

First UFOs. I have seen two UFOs. When I lived in Goffs Oak in Hertfordshire and working in Hoddeston, I used to ride a bike to work, on my way home.

One summer's evening I had to stop to mend a puncture, and looking up I saw a large orange disc, which was stationary in the direction of Edmonton or Enfield.

I watched it for quite some time when suddenly it shot off at tremendous speed and vanished.

The next day's local papers were full of the accounts of those people who had also noticed it, over Edmonton, Enfield and Tottenham. My next sighting was when I was working in Laupheim in Germany. At weekends I used to ride a bike out into the countryside, sight seeing and one Saturday I rode out to see a medieval village about 13 kilometres away.

Having satisfied my curiosity I turned and began my ride back to Laupheim. Part way along my route I stopped to eat my packed lunch. I was staring out across the landscape, when suddenly a mushroom shaped cloud rose up from ground level and stopped at about three hundred feet, a few seconds later a scimitar shaped object flew out of the top of the cloud and vanished from view at very high speed.

There was no sound whatsoever.

When I got to work on the Monday I contacted the German Air Force Base next to the aircraft factory where I was working, to see if they had noticed anything on their radar or observed a strange craft in the sky.

They had noticed a strange blip on radar, which had disappeared at high speed before they could send an aircraft to investigate.

A piece written by Brian Tansley about a football team, reminded me the Tansley''s owned an off-licence shop on the corner of Alport Street off Waterway Street, and when I started work at Redgate's Iron Foundry one of the Tansleys worked there with me. I wonder if they relatives of Brian's? Lastly we have a sweet shop in Sheringham that Replica Breitling Watches is a throw back in time.

They sell all the old fashioned sweets and toffees in jars, the window and the interior of the shop are stacked high with jars of boiled sweets and all the old fashioned favourites.

They even have sherbet dips with the little caramel lollipop inside and of course the sherbet fountain with the liquorice tube.
